SUNDAY TEAMS: Debuts galore for round one

RICHMOND is set to unleash star recruits Katie Brennan and Monique Conti for the first time this year, after the latter was unavailable for practice matches due to basketball.

Conti has since been released from her WNBL contract at her request, meaning she is free to line up alongside her fellow former Bulldogs teammate against Carlton in Friday night's AFLW season opener.

The Tigers will field 11 AFLW debutants, including ex-Demons midfielder Maddy Brancatisano, who didn't manage to break through last season.

Opponent Carlton will have four debutants of its own, including pick No.2 Lucy McEvoy.

It's been an injury-hit pre-season for Melbourne, but the side has been boosted by forwards Tegan Cunningham, Kate Hore and Ainslie Kemp, who were all needing tests to play. Skipper Daisy Pearce will also play her first AFLW match since 2018, returning from pregnancy.

Vivien Saad wasn't even on an AFLW list two weeks ago, but the pregnancy replacement for Jess Duffin has been named as starting ruck for North Melbourne

Greater Western Sydney has two returning players for its clash against Gold Coast, with Bec Privitelli and Britt Tully set to pull on the charcoal and orange for the first time since 2018, while Annalyse Lister will make her AFLW debut.

Gold Coast's first ever draft pick Serene Watson headlines the team's 10 AFLW debutants, while skipper Leah Kaslar has been named in the forward line.

Jess Wuetschner has returned for Brisbane after being hit by lightning several weeks ago, and will be joined by five debutants, containing top-10 picks Lily Postlethwaite and Cathy Svarc.

They'll be facing the reigning premiers Adelaide, who have picked the briefly retired Courtney Gum up forward. In the absence of ACL pair Erin Phillips and Chelsea Randall, ruck Jess Foley has been named skipper.

Sunday's teams have been finalised with Collingwood set to unleash star recruit Brianna Davey against West Coast, who has 10 debutants for its inaugural match.

The Western Bulldogs' Danielle Marshall will be the first American to play in the AFLW and will debut alongside No.1 pick Gabby Newton.

Opponents St Kilda has 11 AFLW debutants in its team, including high draft picks Georgia Patrikios and Nicola Xenos.

Geelong's Nina Morrison will make her long-awaited return from a torn ACL, named in her side's team for Sunday's match against Fremantle.

The Cats struggled with scoring in 2019 and have gone for a significantly smaller forward line, leaving out talls Kate Darby and Maddy Boyd.

Roxy Roux and Mim Strom lead Fremantle's team of six debutants, after the club lost nine players to expansion side West Coast in the off-season.
