Gold Coast's Jamie Stanton gathers a bouncing ball and scores her first AFLW goal and the first goal of the game

2020 in a nutshell: The Suns exceeded expectations in their first season, winning games against fellow expansion outfits West Coast and Richmond and drawing with Brisbane to qualify for the finals where they were outclassed by Fremantle. Gold Coast struggled to score at times but was a frugal, cohesive defensive unit that played with pride and was difficult to score against.

The Suns and the Lions clash in Round 3 of the ALFW

Player to watch: Kalinda Howarth took the competition by storm last season. The dynamic half-forward has a flair like few others and is capable of winning matches off her own boot.

Best Rising Star chance: Annise Bradfield

2021 prediction: With a second pre-season together and more experience for their younger brigade, the Suns should be even more competitive than last season. Whether they have enough scoring punch to guarantee a finals spot will be the big question.
